ABOUT

I have always had a strong interest in photography and the visual arts, alongside a keen curiosity about the film-making process, particularly how creative and aesthetic decisions are taken to compose and shoot stories for the big and small screen.

Having hugely enjoyed my Film Studies GCSE, I chose to further my learning on a BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media Practice (TV and Film) at West Herts College. The course is Screen Skills Select Approved, and has given me the chance to learn more about various aspects of TV and film production, as well as cementing my desire to work in this field.

Camerawork, lighting, sound mixing, colour grading and physical production are disciplines I am most interested in. Whilst I love my current course overall, I am at my happiest learning and using new skills, techniques and equipment in these specific areas. Ultimately, I would like to build a career in cinematography and use these skills on feature film and television productions.

I have found my studies to be both interesting and inspiring, even when faced with more challenging work. On college projects, my love of visual aesthetics has meant I've relished opportunities to take on Camera Operator or Director of Photography duties. These roles have given me chances to experiment and learn techniques with a variety of camera equipment, across different production formats, from promotional videos and documentary shorts to green screen work and multi-camera studio programmes.

My Film Studies GCSE gave me a grounding in the theoretical and practical aspects of filmmaking and fired my enthusiasm to learn more. My college studies have significantly enhanced my understanding of production processes from planning, development, and pre-production through to production design and shooting into post-production. Along the way, I have learned other important skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, communicating effectively and time management.

I can't wait to take things to the next level at university next year!
